Have you heard of TOKYO WHiSKY?
The bottle bears the graceful brushstrokes of 東 and 京 (TO-KYO) in Japanese over a black label. Its dignified presence quietly claims its place on the back bar, exuding an understated elegance that subtly commands attention.
Born in 2020, TOKYO WHiSKY is the result of blending seven distinct malts, each carefully crafted at Nagahama Distillery. The blend incorporates non-peated malt aged in sherry casks, Mizunara cask-aged malt, and even a 30-year-old malt distilled back in 1990. What emerged is a whisky with a captivating depth of flavor.
The supervision bears the signature of the legendary bartender Takao Mori of MORI BAR, whose keen eye and seasoned palate instill the bottle with undeniable confidence. Limited releases in 2020 and 2022 sold out instantly. In 2024, a highly anticipated third release of 3,000 bottles was launched, once again drawing attention.
In this special feature, we uncover what TOKYO WHiSKY is about, exploring the story behind its creation and its distinctive qualities through the voices of the advisor, the blender, and the producer.
